Good Gourd

This morning has been so lovely, cool, and breezy, it almost feels fall-ish. It was a great morning for a run and the farmer’s market. I ran the usual 4 to the KCC Farmer’s Market, and met Tim there. We haven’t been in a few weeks, so we were pretty overzealous this morning, both with our excitement and with our purchases.

Here is a photo of our more glamorous goods. I was so excited to see these tiger gourds, even though they are not edible, they will make a great home decoration. Also pictured is a Thai watermelon, kabocha squash, a purple-hued avocado, a golden-yellow zucchini, and a pinstriped eggplant. Fruits and vegetables are so beautiful!

I also love the fact that we can get pumpkins and watermelons at the same time of year. Other purchases from the market were papayas, a honeydew melon, sweet potatoes, tomatoes, onions, and broccoli raab. We also splurged on some gorgeous protea flowers. They are grown on in upcountry Maui at at least 4,000 foot elevation.

Upon return to the homestead I whipped up another pumpkin breadfruit smoothie. This time I let a tablespoon of oats soak in the soy milk while I was running and mixed those in to add a little more substance. Again, the smoothie was heaven in my mouth. Tim proclaimed it “the best smoothie I have ever made”, now that’s saying a lot!
