Hawaiian Fine Dining

July 25, 2011

Last night Tim and I went to Roy’s, who specializes in fine fusion dining, combining flavors of mostly Hawaiian and Asian cooking. We took the rare opportunity to get gussied up (it doesn’t happen often), and headed out to celebrate Tim’s mom’s birthday.

Pineapple jam crustinis- this jam was really really good.

We started with a salad and plate of sushi.

“Frying Dragon” Unagi, avocado, butterfish, macadamia nuts, and firecracker aioli. This sushi was amazing! The combination of ingredients inside, the crispy texture of the fried nori, and the wasabi sauce were all spectacular.

Waimanalo baby greens with candied mac nuts, dried cherries, cucumber, tomato, and goat cheese with a creamy miso dressing. The salad was also very good, but a little small for my liking.

This was the main event, misoyaki butterfish with a wasabi verblanc sauce. The fish was so tender and perfectly cooked, the black rice was unique and delicious, and again the sauce was incredible.

It was a dinner to die for! Happy birthday Joan, and thanks for a great night out with friends and family!
